what batteries do i need for a quickie s646 wheelchair?

March 14th, 2011

I used to have some really good batteries. I could drive nearly 20 miles before i need to worry about recharging them, But I had them replaced a little while ago thinking they need to be since they were getting a little old (3-4yrs). My new batteries (8-12 months) are total garbage. Im lucky to drive 300 feet before there dead. So dead I can barely drive up my ramp into my house.

So if anyone know what batteries I need that would be a BIG help.

Gas/Electric Hybrid Wheelchair?

October 31st, 2010

A few years ago, a teacher/staff told me about a college student who built his own electric/gas hybrid wheelchair. This chair ran off propane gas and would charge the electric battery as it ran. Does anyone know of such a chair that exists? If so, can you please list a website as I need to buy a new wheelchair soon. Thanks.

How can I make a 9 Volt alert for a battery powered wheelchair.?

October 19th, 2010

I use a battery powered wheelchair to get around in. I live in a senior/assisted living home and I use a elevator often. At times I need to back out of the elevator and I can not see behind me. Also at times other people are just standing around blocking my path. I don’t want anything really loud.. just enough to be heard.

Would like to mount speakers to ultralight titanium wheelchair any ideas?

October 6th, 2010

its an ultralight titanium chair so it doesnt weight much. this gives me more to work with as far as adding weight. ive only got so much realestate to work with however for the placement so size is critical smaller the better but i dont want to sacrifice to much in sound quality. it should be a method with decent to excellent bass so a subwoofer with good sound. ive looked into an all in one way of doing it but havent found yet one that looks like it will mount where it needs to go below the solid carbon fiber seat bottom. if you know of one that may work let me know. otherwise i guess ill have to mount a sub under and the smaller high speakers out the sides. it would be cool if i could have the option to add a syncronized led light kit to it. i suppose one of those square twelve volt batteries that are used to power things like lanterns and such would be a good choice for power unless somebody can thing of anything else. thanks for your time!!!!! -Weelz

Why won't my 97 Chevy Astro start?

March 13th, 2010

1997 Chevy Astro, with a 4.3L and 324k on it. I know it’s high mileage, but it’s a wheelchair van and my only option right now.
The starter on this van was already going out. It would engage and crank the engine about 1 out of every 10 turns of the key, on average. The rest of the time, just spinning freely.

So, the other day my wife ran completely out of fuel. She put some in (not sure how much). Then tryed to start the car, but now the starter is grinding very badly. So she has it towed home to me.

The tow truck driver tells me he saw a bolt under the van when he pulled it up onto his truck, and it’s probably a starter mounting bolt, hence the starter grinding. After he leaves, I crawl under and sure enough, one of the mounting bolts has broken off. So I reach up and wiggle the starter to see how loose it was. Barely moved at all, but enough to cause a spark as the lead touched something.

So I replace the starter with a used one from a junkyard, but I break off the smallest of three posts on the solenoid (it was rusty, I swear). So I switch solenoids with the starter I just took off. All seemed well until when I reattach the negative battery cable, the starter motor kicks in. Oops! I crossed the wires. So I uncross them, and bolt it back together.

The new (to me) starter works great, it turns the engine over with no problems every time I turn the key. However, the van won’t start. I put a gallon of gas in it, but still doesn’t fire up. So I put four more gallons in it. Still nothing.

I sprayed some starter fluid into the intake. I know I’m not supposed to, but I wanted to know if it would fire, before replacing the fuel filter. It did, so I changed the fuel filter.

Still doesn’t start. That’s about where my experience ends, so…what should I try next? Did I do something when I crossed the wires?

how does an electric wheelchair work?

March 12th, 2010

Well my grandmother in Vietnam is becoming really ill and cannot walk herself to places such as the bathroom, so I was wondering in sending an electric wheelchair over there. I don’t think that my uncle would want to carry her every single time she need to use the toilet so this should do the job. How do you charge it. Is is like a battery that you can just plug into the wall and charge it?

why do people think doctors can force medical care?

March 7th, 2010

on competant adults?

i tried asking a question about medical battery..and MANY people said a doctor can do everything he wants.

By law, a competant patient can refuse care, even for a life threatening condition such as a heart attack.

even when i included a link to prove this, people still thought it was okay for a doctor to provide treatment against a competant adults wishes?

are you aware that as an adult, you have the right to refuse treatment (assuming you are not too impaired by intellectual disability or disease)

i am trying to find out if medical battery is a criminal offense or only a civil offense.

use this example:

a man with cerebral palsy
using a motorized wheelchair and has distorted, yet undersatndable speech
he also has a master’s degree and works in a professional field
medical staff assumes he is incompetant, forces treatment because they think he is having a stroke, do not attempt to determine competance for 6 hours

they threaten to forcibly restrain him if he will not cooperate

Looking to get some help- physically disabled?

March 6th, 2010

Hi,

I am 16 years old and physically disabled. I have a disability called Cerebral Palsy, also known as CP. I have two out of the three types of CP. One is Spastic CP, which causes stiff and difficult movement. The 2nd kind I have is Ataxic CP, which is a disturbed sense of balance and depth perception. The Spastic CP is the most dominate in me. I also have epilepsy which is the condition of taking two or more seizures. Because of the epilepsy, I have headaches almost every day as well as this unexplainable pain in my face when I have headaches. When I tell my neurologist, he looks at me as if I am crazy; sweeping the issue under the rug by saying “Your medicine will take care of it.”

I live with my two retired elderly grandparents, who are in their mid 60s. I have a younger brother. My Dad is working out of state to provide for us. He and my mother aren’t together, and she does as she pleases.

I was wondering what if any organizations could possibly help my grandparents get a wheelchair accessible vehicle that has a lift, and space for a wheelchair. (Like one that has a row of seats taken out, or really a single seat) It would ease the stress of getting me places, such as doctor’s appointments, and etc. Currently, they’ve a ’05 Chevy Impala, and each time my chair needs to be put into the car it needs disassembled. My chair is motorized, so it itself ways at least 45 pounds, each tire weighing 50, and the battery weighing 25. My grandfather has heart disease, and diabetes. He has trouble lifting the equipment but he has no choice.

Also, there’s a pit in my backyard. It’s where a pool used to be when I was younger, but that my parents just let go when they were raising me. If there’s an organization out there that could help get that up and running again, it would be great. There’s no cure for what I have. Surgery is an option, but I’ve had my fair share already in life, and it wears off. I also don’t like being sedated- it scares me. I am able to walk in the water. No fear of falling. Water therapy is amazingly helpful.

Because my family has no help or support from anyone, and doesn’t know where to begin, the house is often full of stress because I don’t feel well, and my grandmother doesn’t know what to do, but be there for me, telling me everything will be okay.

My doctor really is no help on any of this.

Thanks in advance for any answers
-Isabel
